The infamous erotic novel The Story of O (Histoire d’O) is the seminal tale of sexual submission that inspired our fragrance LA BAGUE D’O. Written under a pseudonym, it was first published in 1954 but quickly drew legal scrutiny; obscenity laws curtailed further editions until 1967. Even so, daring publishers such as Olympia and Grove went ahead.

This edition is the Grove Press paperback, splashed with a quote from Eliot Fremont-Smith’s New York Times Review in red. The book also comes with a 1994 newspaper article from The Times on the uncovering of the Story of O author's identity.

“A minority insisted the novel must be the work of a woman, because of its detailed descriptions of clothing.”
JULIA LLEWELLYN SMITH
The Times (1994)
