Return to the Château (Retour à Roissy) is the 1969 sequel to The Story of O, penned once again by French author Anne Desclos under the pen name Pauline Réage. The book was published by Jean-Jacques Pauvert in France and later translated into English by Richard Seaver, who used the pseudonym Sabine d'Estrée.

The narrative continues the story as O returns to the château to continue exploring her desires. While Return to the Château did not achieve the same level of notoriety as its predecessor, it remains a significant work in the canon of erotic literature, partly due to Réage’s introductory essay, 'A Girl in Love', in which the author, still keeping her true identity a secret, revealed the personal motivations behind her writing.

This is the first edition in English, published in 1971 by Grove Press, with its beautiful gothic-novel–style illustration on the wrapper.

“The girl was writing the way you speak in the dark to the person you love when they've held back the words of love for too long, and they flow at last. For the first time in her life she was writing without hesitation, without stopping, rewriting or discarding, she was writing the way one breathes, the way one dreams.”
